Image Gallery¶
The Image Gallery in AstroManager helps you organize, view, and manage your captured astrophotography images.
Accessing the Gallery¶
Navigate to "Images" (or "Gallery") from the main menu.
Gallery Overview¶
The gallery displays your captured images organized by:
- Session: Images grouped by imaging night
- Target: Images grouped by object
- Date: Chronological view
- Filter: Images by filter type
Image Sources¶
Automatic Import (N.I.N.A. Plugin)¶
When using the AstroManager N.I.N.A. plugin:
- Images are automatically tracked as they're captured
- Metadata (filter, exposure, target) is recorded
- Thumbnails can be uploaded for preview
Manual Import¶
Import images manually:
- Click "Import Images"
- Select a directory containing FITS files
- AstroManager reads FITS headers for metadata
- Images are cataloged and organized
Import Options¶

Viewing Images¶
Thumbnail Grid¶
The default view shows thumbnails in a grid:
- Quick visual overview of captured frames
- Filter and exposure info overlaid
- Click to open detailed view
Image Details¶
Click any image to see:
- Full Preview: Larger view with stretch options
- FITS Header: Complete metadata
- Capture Info: Time, exposure, filter, binning
- Session Info: Which night it was captured
- Target Info: Associated deep sky object
FITS Header Information¶
View extracted FITS data:

Filtering & Sorting¶
Filter Options¶

Sort Options¶
- Date (newest/oldest)

Image Management¶
Quality Rating¶
Rate your images for later selection:
- Open image details
- Set quality rating (1-5 stars)
- Use ratings to filter for stacking
Marking Images¶
Mark images for various purposes:
- Star: Favorite/best frames
- Flag: Needs attention
- Trash: Mark for deletion
Batch Operations¶
Select multiple images for batch actions:
- Delete selected
- Move to different session
- Export selected
- Re-assign to target
Session View¶
Session Summary¶
Each imaging session shows:
- Date: Night of imaging
- Duration: Total session length
- Weather: Recorded conditions
- Targets Imaged: Objects captured
- Total Frames: Exposure count by filter
Night Report Integration¶
Sessions link to Night Reports for:
- Detailed timeline
- Equipment performance
- Autofocus results
- Weather history
Statistics¶
Imaging Statistics¶
View your imaging activity:

Storage Management¶
Working Directories¶
Configure where your images are stored:
- Go to Settings → Storage
- Add working directories
- Set import preferences
Storage Statistics¶
View storage usage:
- Total space used
- Space by target/session
- Cleanup recommendations
Tips¶
Quick Quality Check
Use the thumbnail grid to quickly spot bad frames (trailing, clouds, focus issues).
Session Organization
Keep images organized by session for easy management and processing later.
FITS Headers
Make sure N.I.N.A. is configured to write complete FITS headers for best metadata in AstroManager.
Regular Cleanup
Periodically review and delete poor-quality frames to save storage space.
