Storage Configuration

Configure how AstroManager manages your image storage and working directories.

Accessing Storage Settings

Navigate to Settings → Storage from the main menu.


Working Directories

What are Working Directories?

Working directories are locations where your imaging data is stored:

  • Where N.I.N.A. saves images
  • Where AstroManager tracks images
  • Locations for import operations

Adding a Working Directory

  1. Click "Add Directory"
  2. Enter or browse for the path
  3. Give it a descriptive name
  4. Save

Directory Settings

Field Description
Name Descriptive name (e.g., "Primary SSD")
Base Path Root directory path
Archive Path Optional archive location

Path Structure

Configuring Path Structure

Define how images are organized within directories:

  1. Go to Storage → Path Structure
  2. Add path elements
  3. Preview the structure
  4. Save

Available Placeholders

Placeholder Example Description
{date} 2026-02-08 Capture date
{target} M31 Target name
{filter} Ha Filter name
{session} Session_001 Session identifier
{year} 2026 Year
{month} 02 Month number

Example Structures

By Date:

{year}/{month}/{date}/{target}/
→ 2026/02/2026-02-08/M31/

By Target:

{target}/{date}/{filter}/

Import Settings

Import Modes

Mode Description
Reference Track images in original location
Copy Copy images to working directory
Move Move images to working directory

File Types

Supported image formats:

  • .fit / .fits / .fts (FITS files)
  • .xisf (PixInsight format)
  • .cr2 / .nef / .arw (RAW files)

Storage Statistics

View Usage

The storage page shows:

  • Total images tracked
  • Storage space used
  • Space by target/session
  • Growth trends

Cleanup Tools

Manage storage space:

  • Remove orphaned entries
  • Archive old sessions
  • Delete marked files

Tips

Consistent Structure

Use a consistent path structure across all directories.

Fast Storage

Use SSD for active imaging, HDD for archive.

Regular Cleanup

Periodically review and archive old sessions.

Backup Strategy

AstroManager tracks files but doesn't replace backups.
