Equipment Profiles

Configure your imaging equipment in AstroManager for accurate field-of-view calculations and exposure planning.

Accessing Equipment Settings

Navigate to Settings → Equipment from the main menu.

Equipment Profile Overview

An equipment profile defines your imaging setup:

  • Telescope/lens specifications
  • Camera sensor details
  • Filter wheel configuration
  • Other accessories

Telescope Configuration

Adding a Telescope

  1. Click "Add Telescope"
  2. Enter specifications
  3. Save

Telescope Settings

Field Required Description
Name Yes Descriptive name
Focal Length Yes Millimeters
Aperture Yes Millimeters
Type No Refractor, Reflector, SCT, etc.

Calculated Values

From your input, AstroManager calculates:

  • Focal Ratio: f/number
  • Resolution: Arcseconds per pixel (with camera)
  • Field of View: Degrees (with camera)

Camera Configuration

Adding a Camera

  1. Click "Add Camera"
  2. Enter sensor specifications
  3. Save

Camera Settings

Field Required Description
Name Yes Camera model name
Sensor Width Yes Pixels
Sensor Height Yes Pixels
Pixel Size Yes Micrometers
Type No Mono, OSC (Color)

Example Configurations

ZWO ASI2600MC Pro: - Width: 6248 pixels - Height: 4176 pixels - Pixel Size: 3.76 μm

ZWO ASI294MM Pro: - Width: 4144 pixels - Height: 2822 pixels - Pixel Size: 4.63 μm

Filter Wheel Configuration

Adding a Filter Wheel

  1. Click "Add Filter Wheel"
  2. Enter filter names
  3. Configure each slot

Filter Settings

Field Description
Position Wheel slot number
Filter Name L, R, G, B, Ha, OIII, etc.
Offset Focus offset (if applicable)

Common Filter Sets

LRGB: - Position 1: L (Luminance) - Position 2: R (Red) - Position 3: G (Green) - Position 4: B (Blue)

Narrowband: - Position 1: Ha (Hydrogen-alpha) - Position 2: OIII (Oxygen III) - Position 3: SII (Sulfur II)

Equipment Profiles

Creating a Profile

Combine telescope + camera + filters into a profile:

  1. Click "Create Profile"
  2. Select telescope
  3. Select camera
  4. Select filter wheel (optional)
  5. Name the profile
  6. Save

Calculated Profile Values

Value Description
Image Scale Arcseconds per pixel
Field of View Width × Height in arcminutes
Resolution Sampling relative to seeing

Example Profile

"8-inch Newt + ASI2600" - Telescope: 8" f/4 Newtonian (800mm FL) - Camera: ASI2600MC Pro - Scale: 0.97"/pixel - FOV: 101' × 67'

Using Equipment Profiles

Filter targets by equipment match: - Objects that fit your FOV - Objects requiring mosaic

In Scheduler

Equipment profile determines: - Framing and orientation - Mosaic panel sizes - FOV overlay in sky atlas

In N.I.N.A. Plugin

Equipment sync uses your configured: - Filter names for matching - Profile for status display

Managing Equipment

Edit Equipment

  1. Navigate to Settings → Equipment
  2. Click "Edit" on the item
  3. Modify specifications
  4. Save

Delete Equipment

  1. Click "Delete" on the item
  2. Confirm deletion

Profile Dependencies

Deleting equipment may affect profiles using it.

Tips

Accurate Specifications

Use manufacturer specs for pixel size and sensor dimensions.

Name Clearly

Use descriptive names: "8in Newt" is better than "Telescope 1"

Filter Name Matching

Filter names must match exactly between AstroManager and N.I.N.A.

Multiple Profiles

Create profiles for different configurations (with/without reducer, etc.)
