Plugin Troubleshooting

Common issues and solutions for the AstroManager N.I.N.A. plugin.

Connection Issues

Plugin Won't Connect

Symptoms: - Connection status shows red/disconnected - "Unable to connect" error

Solutions:

  • Check Internet Connection: Verify you can access https://api.astro.sleeman.at and try opening AstroManager in a browser.
  • Check Firewall: Ensure N.I.N.A. can make outbound HTTPS connections and add an exception if needed.
  • Restart N.I.N.A.: Close it completely, reopen it, and try again.

Frequent Disconnections

Symptoms: - Connection drops periodically - Status fluctuates between connected/disconnected

Solutions:

  • Check Network Stability: Test the connection for packet loss and use wired Ethernet if possible.
  • Check Power Settings: Ensure the computer does not sleep and check USB power management.

Scheduler Issues

No Targets Available

Symptoms: - Scheduler reports "No targets available" - Loop exits immediately

Solutions:

  • Check Targets: Verify you have active targets in AstroManager and that they are not all paused or completed.
  • Verify Observability: Check minimum altitude, moon distance requirements, and Night Preview for the exact reasons targets were not scheduled.
  • Check Observatory: Ensure the correct observatory is selected in the client configuration for the license key used by the plugin, and verify the observatory coordinates and timezone.
  • Check Time: Verify the imaging PC time is correct.

Exposure Issues

Wrong Filter/Exposure

Symptoms: - Plugin uses unexpected filter

Solutions:

  • Verify Filter Wheel Setup: Filter names must match exactly. If the names differ from AstroManager's standard filter names, define a filter mapping once in the Remote Control Overview. Without that mapping, captures may not be assigned to the correct imaging goals.

Performance Issues

Plugin Causes Lag

Symptoms: - N.I.N.A. becomes slow when plugin is active

Solutions:

  • Check Log Level: Set it to Info or Warning, not Debug or Trace.
